More Women's Lip
Hello!

Welcome to the long over due second entry on the Women’s Lip page. I have been riding and getting to know my bike and the road.

Yes, I passed my Motorcycle Safety Class. Phew!!! Going into it, I thought how tough can a 14.5 hour class really be. By the end of the weekend, all I could do was sigh.

Everyone, especially new riders, should take that class. I am so glad that I did, it is amazing the amount of information you really take away from it. Taking the class has saved me from being an ornament in a tree and on a car. OK, I guess you can see that I am a big advocate for the class. The Motorcycle Safety Riders Edge Poster Child.

Now on to the first 1,000 miles on my bike. I love it!!!! I cannot believe how much I enjoy riding my own motorcycle. My husband Jim, bought a new 2007 Harley Ultra Glide, what a wonderful passenger seat (as I remember). My Dad thought I wouldn’t ride my own bike but he was wrong. I have probably only ridden with Jim maybe 3 times since I got my license. I do have to admit, once in a while it is nice to sit back and enjoy the luxury of a smoother ride, listen to the radio and enjoy riding with my husband.

I try to find every excuse to ride my bike. I ride it to get my hair cut, my nails done (gotta look good) and whatever other errand I can think of. One nice thing about taking the bike, you really cannot buy too much stuff because it all has to fit in the saddlebags.

I did something I didn’t think I would do, I added “bling” to my bike. My bike now has spot lights in the front. I like having more light on the road at night, better to see and be seen. And, of course, louder pipes. It still sounds like a Yamaha but with a bit more noise

I haven’t really been on any big motorcycle trips out of state. Jim and I have mostly been riding around Northern Minnesota. My biggest road trip was about 400-500 miles in a weekend. That was a blast. It was also when I figured out turns and curves in the road. When they tell you to look through the turn - do it! Like I said earlier - could have been an ornament in a tree. Don’t look at the trees when going around a turn!
Summer is coming to an end fast. We have a ride planned for Tomahawk, Wisconsin, for the MDA ride and the Harley Davidson open house coming up in September. I will enjoy letting you all know about that new experience.

Please share your adventures and experiences with us. I would love to hear about the fun places you were able to see over the summer months.

Hello Ladies:

Welcome to the first entry on the Women’s Lip page. I hope others find the
name both clever and funny.

There are so many websites that cater to men, that I wanted a page just for
us women to share our experiences. I would love to hear from other women,
whether you ride your own bike or are sitting on the back, it is all about
the adventure.

My riding experience consists mainly of mini-bikes and dirt bikes when I was
young and being the passenger “bitch” on the back. I don‘t know if it was
due to a midlife crisis or what, but last September I decided it was time I
had my own bike.

Talk about a shopping experience. My husband Jim, has a Harley Davidson
Road King, so obviously the first place we looked for my new bike was at our
local Harley dealership. There were many very nice looking bikes but none
that I felt at home on. I am a tall lady so the Sportsters were a little
small and the bigger bikes seemed too heavy. I am starting to sound like a
children’s bedtime story. Anyways, needless to say we left the Harley
dealership without a motorcycle. Jim and I decided that I needed a midsize
bike, something around a 650 that would be big enough for my size but not
too heavy if I needed to pick it up.

The internet is a great place to research and shop. I found a Yamaha that I
liked but wanted to see it in person. That night we were off to another
dealership to see if I liked what I saw. Luckily, the dealership had the
bike but sadly I really didn’t care for it in person. The salesman pointed
out a 2007 Yamaha V-star 650. It had saddlebags and a windshield, which I
really wanted. The color was blue with black and silver pinstripes. I fell
in love with it the moment I sat on it. It just felt like my bike! Jim had
me lay the bike down on the showroom floor and pick it up, the poor salesman
was not too sure about us. It was decided right then and there, that was
the bike for me. The next day Jim drove home on my new bike since I didn‘t
have a permit or experience driving on the open road, (I was too excited and
nervous to take it on my own anyways).

When I told my family I had bought a motorcycle, they thought I was crazy
since buying a motorcycle in September, in Minnesota, doesn’t really leave
you much time before the snow starts falling. Hey, it is a 2007, it would
still be new in the Spring. My kids think I am a bit crazy, especially my
oldest daughter, but my grandkids think I am cool.

Spring is now here and I am going to be taking the motorcycle safety course
this summer. I would love to hear from any of the ladies out there that
have gone through the course and what you thought of it. For all the new
riders out there, I will enjoy sharing my experience while going through the
course and venturing out on the open road for the first time.

I look forward to sharing the riding experience with all of you.
